Maria Chiara Formica is a highly qualified physiotherapist with international experience across Italy and the UK. She graduated in 2016 from the University of Rome Tor Vergata, where she also contributed to published research on the Barthel Index in Italian ischaemic stroke patients (Functional Neurology, 2019).
Her clinical background in Italy includes working at San Raffaele of Monte Compatri, managing cardiovascular and respiratory disease, including patients with heart failure and those recovering from cardiac surgery, with a focus on restoring functional capacity and reducing fatigue. She also treated patients with metabolic conditions and, alongside her hospital role, worked in private clinics treating neurological, musculoskeletal and sports-related conditions, as well as providing domiciliary rehabilitation.
After moving to the UK, she expanded her expertise across private practice, community rehabilitation, social care and emergency settings, specialising in the assessment and treatment of balance and neurological disorders, including Parkinson's disease, cerebellar disease, multiple sclerosis, peripheral neuropathies, dementia, vestibular disorders, migraines and headaches, and postural and musculoskeletal problems. She is a certified Vestibular Rehabilitation Therapist (VRT) and an AACP member, integrating Western acupuncture into treatment where appropriate.
She has also undertaken extensive postgraduate training, including mobilisation of the neural system, MSK trigger point treatment (Ticchi Method), taping and functional bandaging, hydrotherapy for developmental age, and postural approaches including Mézières.
