Hygieia, one of the five daughters of Asclepius, God of Medicine, was the personification of health, cleanliness and prevention. M.I.A.L.'s Hygieia programmes offer cardiovascular screening, family screening for inherited cardiac conditions, and lifestyle and wellbeing programmes.
"Prevention is better than cure" is a sentence attributed to the Dutch philosopher Desiderius Erasmus in the 16th century — and remains a fundamental principle of M.I.A.L.'s approach to healthcare.
